It's been a busy week. Full of preschool accounting (billing parents, that is- we don't actually teach accounting to the preschoolers at Northwest unless you include counting dots and butterflies), visiting Shreveporters, neurology, paying bills, and trying to be outside as much as possible. Here's a few highlights:
We went to a Luau on the last real winter day of Dallas.
Silas is sitting up more and spitting up less; he's also been pretty talkative these days saying things like "ttttttt" mixed in with some drool.
We taught Lewis to lie down on command.
Joel arguably got misdiagnosed as not having the consumption.

Sabrina almost escaped into the beautiful weather. I was tempted to just let her go. Isn't that what they say? When you love someone you gotta let them go?
The adult Fankhausers took us to Cafe Brazil, Dallas' best coffee bar in my opinion. I had some of the best black beans I've ever tasted.
Speaking of black beans...since we were so busy this week, last night Silas kindly cooked us Gallo Pinto (painted rooster)- a popular Costa Rican dish with black beans, rice and eggs. But no one bothered to clean up last night, so that's what I'm going to do now.

My favorite part is where you said "the adult fankhausers". Oh, and Silas cooking dinner...could we borrow him for a while? Maybe he could teach Eleanor a thing or two.

So are we to assume that joel doesn't not have the consumption?

Not yet. He has to be retested next week. If the result is positive, I get to be tested too, because he thinks we were exposed in China.
Hmm. Luke (Wakefield) tested positive. I shared a room with him for a year while he hacked up his lungs in wild coughing fits. I was sure I'd test positive with all my mandatory TB skin tests for hospital employment. However, I seem to have evaded the tubercules. Hopefully you will have as well.

matt, here's the deal. i measured my arm and got 12-13 mm 2 days after i got the PPD placed. Because I had it placed on a friday, they read it on monday (3 days later) and it was supposedly 8 mm (the cutoff for me is 10 mm). I told the PA that my measurement was significantly larger yesterday. He said he wanted to test me again. Knowing that a recent previous exposure to a PPD makes it likely that a new one will be positive and that my first one was actually positive despite the "official" read by student health, I agreed to this plan despite the unorthodox nature of that plan.
i could very well have been exposed to the consumption in the Parkland ER but as I haven't had a patient of my own in the hospital who had TB, it seems just as likely that we were exposed in China.

Good luck with the consumption. And we would also like to have silas over to teach our girls to cook supper. The meal silas prepared looked much tastier then the things ava puts together on her high chair tray. Tonight ava got a jar of baby food stuck on her hand and tried to remove it by putting the jar and everything she could get out of it on her face. This turned out to not be as effective as she hoped so she shouted what I'm pretty sure were profanities in some language only she and Anabelle know.
ann, silas hasn't learned how to swear. we'd appreciate it if you'd make sure that ava and annabelle curb their tongue the next time we're in town. do that, and i'll make sure not to cough all over your precious family. okay, i'm not contagious, but it's the only trade that i could make. bartering just seems like such a good economic system.
