Silas picked out his own clothes on this day. He kept bringing me things to help him put on. This was the final product.
Here are the important developments we've been experiencing in physical growth, emotional stability, speech and language, and occupational skills.
JOEL
-Learned how to put the babies to bed ALL BY HIMSELF!!! I got the night off last night and he took charge of it all. When I came home it was so quiet and peaceful. I'm really thankful for the little break. I should say after putting the babies to bed all by myself night after night while Joel is hard at work in the ER, it really is no small task.
-Learned that he cannot send OB patients from the Children's ER to the UAMS ER when there are 10,000 bees swarming the ambulance entrance.
ALICE
-read the instructions for BOB Dualie and learned this: "to fold stroller: remove children from stroller..."
-Learned that even a couple hours away from home, deserved or not, improves mothering.
SILAS
-Learned that he cannot step off the edge of the deck without at least one bruise.
-Learned that taking toys away from Micah gets him a trip to time out. He's learned this and forgotten at least 8 times.
-Learned how to say mouse, umbrella, octopus, lion, recipe, drill bit, "Come on, Lewis!" and "I'm sorry,"
MICAH
-Learned that he can put things in his mouth.
-Is learning that nap time means nap time.
-Learned how to laugh.
LEWIS AND SABRINA
-Continue to ignore that the best way to avoid Silas is to leave the area.

Y'all are the model for "lifelong learners" - no Alzheimers for your family.
Time away from home and kids - always deserved! Good job Joel!

Important update!
An important word Silas learned since this post, much to the chagrin of his dad, is "Aggies". He even tried to do the "gig 'em" with his thumb. What an incredibly smart boy!
And Micah not only learned to laugh, but apparently thinks his papa on Joel's side is uproariously funny. I don't know why, but I love it! Another incredibly smart boy.
And we learned that Silas did not (yet) inherit the Fankhauser "I am such a picky eater" gene. He not only ate meatloaf (with all kinds of good stuff in it, like onions and tomatoes), he asked for more. Uncle Butt (aka, Matt) would be so disappointed that his nephew is not an onion-hater. Pops'Tis too soon to tell with Micah. We pray it skips him as well.
This was a very exciting post! sounds like lots of good things are happening. I cant wait to see ya'll for graduation!
thanks, erin. but it really wasn't that big a job (i mean to only do it once). plus, i had help from my good friend, ben morgan.
and silas said "aggies" merely because he repeats words. he'd say the f bomb if you said it around him enough. it doesn't mean he knows what it means.

Aggies, round 2
It is true, Silas does not yet know what the word "Aggies" means... but with his loving Papa to guide him, one day he will. And, perhaps he will root for them...
Half the fun at this point is simply getting Silas to say "Aggies" to his Longhorn-loving daddy :-)
I think that a night out maybe the single most important thing I do as a mother. Otherwise I'm mostly crazy and mean.
I can't wait to hear micah laugh and silas say drill bit over graduation.
Joel, can you be in my movie?
Joel~
Please don't say that it isn't a big job. Now I won't feel nearly as proud of myself when I do it all those nights Clark is on call!! :)
